- Best camera apps on Android
- Best photo editing apps on Android
- The process is really easy. The same process can be used for
any Samsung phones with an SD card (Galaxy S2, S3 Mini, S4, S5 etc but
not the S6...ahem) as well as other SD card fans like the LG G3, HTC One
M8 or Xperia Z3. The particular steps might be a little different, but
just dig around and you'll find your way.
Save photos to SD card
Obviously the first thing you need to store images directly in the external memory is an SD card. Once inserted, you just need to open the camera application where a message will appear asking if you want to change the storage location to the SD card. The same popup occurs on most devices when a SD card is inserted and the camera app opened next.
Accept this so that future pictures are stored in the external memory card. Now, if by some chance this message doesn’t appear, you need to configure it manually. To do this, you just have to go to Settings in the camera app and scroll down to storage options. That's where you are able to choose between Device or Memory Card.
What happens with Android 4.4 KitKat?
Android 4.4 KitKat doesn't like SD cards so much and images are saved in the internal memory by default with no easy way to cahnge the save location. One simple solution is to download the MX Camera application in which you'll find options to select the storage destination for our pictures taht can override KitKat's preferences.Simply open the application and go to Settings, then Camera and finally Custom save location.
What happens in Android 5.0 Lollipop?
Android 5.0 Lollipop changed things again and it is once again possible to more easily set your save location for images taken on your smartphone (along with being safer). Apps once again have read and write access to directories on removable storage. All you need to do is make sure your phone has a camera app with the new API that makes use of these new permissions. If your stock camera won't let you save to the SD card, just download a different camera app.Do you save your photos to the SD card? What are the benefits/dangers in your mind?
